Layout fixed
Posted on May 26, 2007
Most pages on the website were not displaying properly because of a problem with the CSS. That issue has been resolved. (Why didn't anyone tell me?)
The DIY Projects Index page has finally been revised to meet W3C Standards.
New Home Page

The main index page, or "home page" for Thumbandhammer.com has been given a face-lift. The Blog and the DIY Projects index are up next for renovation. And, despite compliance with W3C standards, a number of pages are in need of some minor revisions.
Valid XHTML

All of the static pages on the website, except for the index pages which are due to be re-designed, have been re-coded to be compliant with W3C standards. What that means is that they *should* be treated exactly the same way by whatever browser you may use. (The reality is, however, that Internet Explorer still marches to the beat of its own drummer, so there may be a few minor differences in the layout. If you haven't already, I recommend switching to Opera or Firefox.)
During the re-coding, I made some minor changes to the content of just about every page, whether it was editing grammar, or adding clarifications.
I also changed the way that full-size photos are displayed from thumbnails, thanks to a javascript called "ThickBox." Now, when you enlarge a picture, it will display over the page you are viewing, saving you from having to click on the "back" button. If you have javascript disabled on your browser, the pictures will continue to display the old fashioned way.
Website is under renovation

The layouts of some of the pages of this website may be messed up while I make some minor changes. I am continuing to revise pages so they validate to W3 standards. I am also adding other neat elements to enhance the website. I am hoping that the revision will be completed within a couple of months, at which time there will probably be a fair amount of new content which will be added.
Validating 1/3 finished

After a long break, I have returned to re-coding every page of the website to comply with W3 standards. This way, the website *should* appear the same in any web browser. Thumbandhammer.com has 60 pages of static content. So far, 20 pages have been revised and now validate as strict xhtml.
The new blog is up and running. I have switched over from BoastMachine to WordPress. I had avoided WordPress in the past, mostly because everyone else was using it. However, I have learned that everyone else is using it for a reason.
New content (in addition to any blog entries) will be on its way and will be uploaded before the end of the year.
New Blog

I've jumped on the Wordpress bandwagon, and have migrated all my posts from the past year over to the new blog.
Still validating the website

Okay....re-coding each page so that it validates as Strict XHTML is a slow tedious job. I am averaging only a couple of pages per week. I still about 45 pages to go!
Why validate? Because I want the website to look the same, no matter what browser is being used.
I have found and fixed a couple of errors, in content and in missing or incorrect links.
It will be a while before I add any new content. Therefore, YOU can help out, by uploading pictures in the gallery, and by starting some discussions on the forum.
Validating

Presently, I am going through the entire website, page by page, and bringing the code up to the current W3 standards. As each page becomes compliant, you will see the "xhtml" and "css" graphics displayed as they are on this page.
In other news, Thumbandhammer.com is now a proud member of the fast-growing (300 member +) Houseblogs Network.
