Home Security
Article provided by securitychoice.com
Many people tend to overlook home security when concentrating on home improvement. Typically, the phrase “home improvement” brings to mind tasks such as fixing loose boards, painting railings, and things of that nature; however, upgrading your home’s security system can do just as much to increase the appeal and value of your home, and can also do much to keep you, your loved ones, and all of your possessions safe from intruders or accidents.
These days there are a number of companies out there that specialize in helping you choose a system appropriate for your house, and while it may not necessarily be easy to get your hands on a free home security system, the price ranges on different systems are usually quite manageable.
FIRE AND CARBON MONOXIDE PROTECTION
At minimum, your home should be equipped with smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to alert you in the event of an emergency. Their only job is to warn you to get out of your house to safety. Imagine being awakened from a deep sleep by the piercing sound of a smoke detector. After getting over the initial shock and escaping outside, you still have to call the fire department. If you have a monitored security system, the security company will contact the appropriate authorities for you which will save precious minutes and limit the damage. Now imagine how crucial this fast response would be if you were unable to escape.
PROTECTION FROM INTRUDERS
Locks and deadbolts offer some protection against break-ins, but the best defence will come from a more advanced alarm system that can include security cameras that record activity around and inside your home and motion detectors that you can set when you leave the house or go to sleep. In fact, even the window stickers or small sign put up in your front yard by the security company to indicate that you are protected can serve as a line of defense, discouraging potential intruders.
24/7/365
For a monthly fee, you have the peace of mind knowing that in the event of an emergency or break-in, whether you are at home or not, the appropriate authorities will be dispatched. Your safety, your house and your belonging are all protected around the clock, every day of the year.
When you set about to “improve” your home, you are probably most concerned with the appearance and durability of its features. Ultimately, however, the home is meant to be a safe place for families, which means that its level of security against danger is its most important feature and function. Without an adequate security system, you will be at risk for accidents and crimes that can make all of your other improvements, and all your hard work, irrelevant.
